Loughborough Park veg growing
Join us in Loughborough Park’s community garden every Monday 2.30-4.30pm and help us tend our beautiful new veg patch. Take away freshly picked veg, plants for your own gardens or windowsills, and positive vibes from getting involved. Everyone is welcome!
- Do you want to learn how to grow your own food?
- Get access to fresh organically grown fruit and veg?
- Have fun, meet new people and get some exercise?
Community gardener Fabrice from Myatt’s Fields will be there to help us with growing advice: what to plant, how to prepare the soil, when to water, when to harvest. Fabrice knows how plants can work together to keep the soil healthy, pest-free, and productive – and loves to share their knowledge.
If there’s something you really want to grow just ask – Fabrice may be able to supply it, or you are welcome to bring your own seeds and cuttings. There is space for everyone to grow their favourites!
On our first session on Monday (19th July) we weeded the patch, leaving some lovely tomatoes and a Portuguese brassica called couve – similar to collard greens – in place for later cropping. In between we planted beetroot, callaloo, French beans, runner beans, curly kale and ridge cucumbers. Next we need to add a lovely layer of mulch and topsoil to keep the bed in good condition – then more planting. What would you like to grow?
Tools and gardening gloves will be supplied. Just bring yourselves, water and a hat in hot weather and wear suitable clothes.
